Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question that’s not answered on our site? Send us a message at info@ricefs.com or give us a call at 508.375.3100.

  • An extension gives you extra time to file your return, usually until October 15th, but it does not give you extra time to pay. If you expect to owe, you'll still need to estimate and pay that amount by the original April deadline to avoid interest and penalties. Extensions are common and completely routine. We'll let you know if filing one makes sense for your situation and handle it for you.

  • Once your return is ready, we'll upload it to your secure portal for review. When you're satisfied, you'll sign electronically right in the portal, and we'll e-file your return.

  • Signing is quick and fully electronic. Once your return is ready for approval, you'll receive a secure request through the portal, review the documents, and sign with a few clicks from your computer, phone, or tablet. This e-signature authorizes us to file your return on your behalf.

  • You can pay your invoice directly through our client portal. We accept ACH and credit card payments, so you can choose whatever's most convenient.

  • It varies by situation, but we'll send a personalized checklist of what we need so you're not left guessing.

  • For most individuals, the federal deadline is April 15th, or the next business day if it falls on a weekend or holiday. Business returns and certain other filings have different dates. We'll keep you informed of the deadlines that apply to you.

  • The sooner the better. Getting your documents early gives us time to review thoroughly and ask any questions, without the last-minute crunch.

  • Turnaround depends on the complexity of your return and how busy the season is, but we'll always give you a realistic timeline up front. The best way to get your return done early is to get your documents to us early.

  • Don't let that stop you from filing. Filing late carries steeper penalties than paying late. If you owe more than you can pay right now, we can talk through your options, including IRS payment plans, so you can handle it without unnecessary penalties.
